Bahraini National Day

Staff and students at Abdulrahman Kanoo International School celebrated Bahrain National Day, as part of the last day of school before winter break. This year’s celebrations focused on Bahraini traditions, with the inspiration coming from a locally produced book called “Hazawi Lawal”. A Google Site was developed to announce the programme to students and parents with a variety of activities all centred around Bahraini tradition and culture.

Ms Afaf Salmeen, Head of Pre School commented, “In line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Day Celebrations and to promote citizenship our Pre School students celebrated through a variety of activities. Participation in the “Preschool Fashion Show ” was very well received, singing traditional songs in which was filmed as part of an inhouse movie which was showcased across the school. Teacher supported making National Day cards and we encouraged staff and students to come to school in traditional or National dress. A fantastic interactive and celebratory day in which we drove a student-centred approach and embedding cultural appreciation.”

The engagement included a virtual fashion show of students in tradition dress, artwork and a colouring competition based out of characters from Hazawi Lawal (@hazawilawal), interviews with grandparents and a variety of student directed films. The Elementary School was invited by the authors to participate in a Virtual Meeting hosted by Isa Cultural Centre (@icc_bh) in which videos where showcased and talk about the book its development.
